The Halkey Roberts V85000 Auto Inflator is an auto inflator that was widely found in lifejackets in the UK before the updated V90000 Alpha was launched. This Auto inflator has two warning indicators. The Red/Green indicators are in the end cap and the side retaining clip. Red means warning – check before use. Green is reassuring but regular checks are still important.
When supplied new in jackets the V85000 Auto Inflator is fitted with a Green V85006 lock pin. However, as the pin is very fragile and difficult to ship, RTS rearming kits include the 8451AMAG “Standard Clip” which is more robust.

When you buy the rearming kit, RTS includes an information sheet which will help you rearm your lifejacket and give you some additional advise which you may find useful. But below are a few key points for you to consider.
DO NOT TRY TO SCREW THE CO2 CYLINDER IN FIRST!!! The firing pin may still be raised and the Cylinder will fire in your hand and could be very uncomfortable.
The first thing you have to consider with this device is the Super Bobbin.
The V80040 Super Bobbin is the auto firing mechanism. It contains a paper element that dissolves on contact with water and then releases the firing pin in to the CO2 cylinder. The original V85000 Auto Inflator was shipped with an older red version of your super bobbin, but these have been replaced by the newer yellow version and any red ones are now out of date and obsolete. The red bobbins should not be used.
The Super Bobbin has a manufacture date and can be used in your device for up to 3 years, subject to the manufacture date and the type of use. RTS Rearming kits always contain recently manufactured stock allowing you to get the maximum lifetime use as recommended by the manufacture.

You should consider changing the super bobbin before the scheduled replacement date. Some heavy users in the commercial sector change biannually.
The Super Bobbin will only fit in to the head one way. Line it up correctly, insert it in to the Operating Head and then screw the End Cap tightly. You will see the red warning indicator part of the end cap turn green as you secure the end cap.
Next fit the 8451AMAG side retaining clip.
The Clip is part indicator, in that if you see the clip in place, green means good. If the clip is missing, you only see red which means warning, the device needs checking and assessing. The Clip also serves a practical purpose. The clip provides some resistance so a proper tug is required to inflate your jacket, reducing the occurrence of accidental inflations caused by the manual toggle catching on something, or the lever working lose and raising the firing pin.
Next step is to check your Cylinder Gasket.
The 849AML Cylinder Gasket should be sitting centrally inside the inflator Op Head. When you pull the manual toggle, the firing pin comes up through the hole in the middle of the Gasket and pierces the CO2 cylinder.
The gasket has a dual function. It prevents CO2 escaping through the threaded area. It also creates a reverse pressure against the thread, meaning that the cylinder is less likely to work lose in wear.
Your RTS V85000 Auto Inflator rearming kit comes with a Cylinder Gasket, which you only need to use if worn or missing.
Finally you can screw in your CO2 Cylinder.
The Cylinder should be screwed in fairly tight.
CO2 Cylinders are engraved with a manufacture date but do not have an expiry date.
CO2 Cylinders only need to be replaced if the gas has been used or escaped, or if there are signs of damage such as rust. Similarly the clip only needs replacing if missing, worn or broken.
It is always handy to have a spare clip, super bobbin and cylinder so that in the event of an inflation, the jacket can be put back in service quickly.
